Gözay: "TRNC Taxi sector will become more efficient with a new Motor Vehicles Law"

According to the new law regarding motor vehicles which was approved by the Parliament yesterday people residing in north Cyprus with a work permit will not be allowed to work as Taxi drivers.

Evaluating the law during an interview with Deniz Abidin of Kıbrıs Postası which will be in effect by 1st of July the president of Taxi Drivers Association Kemal Gözay said that the decision taken by the Parliament was the right one.

Gözay said that the law will help the sector to develop into a more professional one. Noting that with the new law residents who have at least five years valid driving licence and were able to get working permit for 6 consecutive years will qualify to get an white ID Gözay said that those who match with the criteria will be able to work as taxi drivers. According to Gözay the new law will help the sector to develop as the quality of service will increase.

“From now on random people coming to Cyprus will not be able to work as taxi drivers. This does not create injured parties. Taxi drivers who are doing this job only with work permits will either find other jobs or will wait for 5 years to be able to work in the sector” said Gözay.
