TRNC: Girne’s 100 worst roads undergoing "Urgent Intervention"
Emergency work to fix Girne’s 100 worst roads is set to start, after council officials rubber-stamped a 1.25 million TL repair plan on Monday.
Girne mayor Nidai Gungordu said almost 7,000 tonnes of asphalt would be used to fill in potholes and resurface the worst sections of streets and roads in Girne and surrounding villages over the next four months.
The deal with Emek Construction Company Ltd was signed following a fast-tracked two-week tender process.
The cost of the roadwork’s is being partly funded by Turkey.
Girne municipality’s public works supervisor Muharrem Arslan said: ”We came up with a list of around 100 streets and avenues that are damaged and are in need of urgent intervention.”
”We have also taken other roads into consideration which may need repairs in the near future, plus ones we may not be aware of which may be brought to our attention by members of the public.”
However, officials refused to release the full list of street names as they ”did not want it out in the media”.
Emek Construction director Mehmet Kahveci pledged to carry out the repairs with ”as little inconvenience to the public as possible”.
