1 YEAR LATER - I write this with great sadness over the unimaginable and shocking loss of a close friend to death. He is too young. He loved life. He is the best guy you would want around you. He can lay down his life for you, which he did under some strange circumstances.

EBINABO TARIYEMIENYO MEINDINYO inside and out, was a wonderful friend to me, supporting me for over 2 years with his gentle and caring nature. One of his beliefs in life was the importance of being authentic, original and carefree with people, saying what needs to be said because it’s good for the relationship and for the soul.

Also, I always admired how Ebi never judged or forced his opinions on anyone, but offered valuable and truthful advice that I will surely miss. He was loving and real. He was a wonderful and generous friend to all his friends.



Ebi’s life was taken away from us too soon and it is hard to understand why tragic things like this happen to such good people. However, this is a question without an answer and we should not dwell on the loss of our dear friend, son and brother. Today let’s celebrate his life and remember all of the remarkable things Ebi accomplished and how wonderful his life was.

Ebi was incredibly responsible, intelligent and caring. I knew that I could trust him with anything and I respected him more than words can say. I wonder what you were thinking as your life ended. Did you wonder if your life mattered? did you wonder if people would remember you? Oh God, this is so sad.

It is incredibly sad that Ebi’s life ended so soon and I cannot put into words how much I will miss him. Ebi was a positive person and would not want us to be sad today. If he were here he would tell us to cheer up, smile and remember all of the great memories we all shared. Even though Ebi may be gone, his memory will live on in all of us forever.

In most cases, this is usually the decision of every teenager leaving his or her parents which is always because of their experiences and level of discipline imposed by their parents. This is however a wrong mindset or decision to take. Most times, we fail to understand that everything our parents do or say is for us to become better persons in life. Many a times, we see and appreciate their efforts as we get older.

Even though you are currently in a department that is not of your choice; either because your parents decided for you or you are placed there by the school, you should strive to be the best. Our parents as investors, expects returns on every investment especially a long term investment like us, so we owe it to them to give our best to all we do in school. I will like to state few ways in which we can achieve academic excellence and also having a balanced like. Here are the few:

Let God be your guide: the first thing we need to do it to have God as our pathfinder. Trust him to always guide you in your daily affairs, in the friends you choose, etc. this can never be over emphasized.

Your resolution: Make a strong resolve to be the best in your class or department by
Stop procrastinating. Get your work done on time and before deadlines. You’ll probably find you eliminate quite a bit of stress in your life!

Give it 110%. You may already be submitting excellent coursework and studying hard for each of your classes.  Try putting just a little extra effort towards one class or project.

Don’t do it all. It’s better to concentrate on a few things and excel in them than if you join every committee, activity and club that you can cram into your schedule.

Banish the self-doubt. Doubting your own abilities only holds you back from achieving what you want to achieve. Just say no to negative thoughts!

Adopt a positive mantra. Repeat after me: I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.  You’ll be amazed what you can accomplish just by telling yourself that it is possible!

Reach out to others. Look to others in your classes for help when you need it.  If you didn’t understand a lecture, perhaps your classmate can explain it in a different way that makes sense to you.  And in turn, you may be able to help other students down the road.  Together Everyone Achieves M

Social Life: All work and no play is just no fun at all. Even if you just assign one or two nights a week to “Play time,” do it. You can go to a movie, buy tickets to a show, attend a party, go for a hike or visit your parents. The key is to do something just for the fun of it. It’s necessary to release some of the stress of the week by finding something enjoyable to do to blow off some steam. You may be pleasantly surprised at how refreshed you feel after some innocent shenanigans with an old buddy or a nice belly laugh at a comedy club.

Take some “Me Time.” You are likely working, studying, and trying to be a good friend or family member all at the same time.  That’s hard work!  Carve out a little time each month to do something positive for yourself.  You are working hard, reward yourself for a job well done.

I hope putting in place these few things will help you achieve your academic goal and live a balance life which will bring satisfaction to you and joy to your parents.

The coldest season of the year is here and the big question remains; how ready are you to accomplish all your academic missions with this harsh weather condition? Winter in Northern Cyprus is basically between November to February; followed by spring and autumn which is mostly short. The coldest season in Northern Cyprus around December goes from an average temperature of 12°C (54°F), with the average high temperature of 16°C (61°F). It can also drop as low as 7°C (45°F) on the average during the night. The weather in Famagusta might be confusing sometimes because it could be sunny and then in a blink of an eye; it becomes windy or rainy which might make the temperature drop very low and it becomes colder.

With this background information, students should know what to expect and by now; you should start shopping for heavy clothing materials (Winter gloves, socks, caps, winter jackets, winter sweaters, mufflers, winter boots, blankets etc. ) if you don’t have any or you want more. Adjusting to the change in weather and time is also very important. You can use this weather/time to your advantage since we have shorter day and longer night. While you enjoy a long sound night rest, you can also do some of your school work at night since there are lesser hours of daylight.

For most new students from countries with moderate or less extreme weather conditions, this must be cultural shock to you. But it is nothing to be scared of. Get your clothings right and you will enjoy the season. Also, be sure that all buildings (administrative blocks, classes, library, shops etc.) will be conditioned warm or hot as the case may be. The change in weather can also cause one to fall sick easily but as soon as you notice anything strange, just make you way to the school clinic.

On the flip-side, some new students are excited to be in North Cyprus and they can’t wait to experience their first winter. Winter is beautiful and lovely because it comes with fabulous fashion style and dramatic clouds which you can take good pictures of if you love nature. Undisputedly, some days can be slow during winter and all you just want to do all day is to stay in bed in your warm blankets and sleep. For days like that, a cup of hot coffee can be magical, try some.

She wants a man who will dote on her and make her feel like the only lucky girl on earth. 1. BE ATTENTIVE: pay attention to everything about your woman. If not everything, almost everything. Remember her birthday, your anniversary, the little details about her. Base your relationship on the evaluation of what both of you need, not on the relative relationship success of those around you.

3. THE PAST IS NOT THE FUTURE: we all have a past; there is no one without a skeleton in his/her cupboard. Therefore, do not limit your relationship by your experiences or disappointments of the past. Your relationship history is not your future. Do not be afraid of starting all over and starting afresh too. Avoid taking your mistakes into your new relationship but learn from your mistakes so it won’t repeat itself. If she tells you her past, never criticize her. That is one of the fastest way to push a Nigerian girl away from you.

4. SHOW YOU CARE, EVEN WHEN IT’S HARD TO: conflicts and disagreements are part of every relationship and during those times, it is hard to show your partner that you love them. A Nigerian girl wants to know her man cares for even at the most difficult times. It is vital to do something for her that shows her you really care about her; conflict or not. In fact, there is no better time to show your love to a Nigerian girl than when you guys having a little disagreement.

5. BE RELIABLE: a Nigerian girl need assurance that you will always do what you say you will do. A Nigerian girl can only trust you or commit herself to you fully if you are always reliable. Do not just speak, make sure your words are tangible and meaningful. Say what you mean and do what you say you are going to do. Do not make empty promises you can’t keep. To love a Nigerian woman, your word has to really be your bond.

6. BE ROMANTIC: we all want a bit of fairy tale in our relationships. Therefore, we want a man that can cook breakfast and bring it to us in bed. We want a guy that will pull his jacket off for us when we are cold. A Nigerian girl wants to feel very special, so you have to be romantic. We love date nights too, it is not a white girl thing. Be prepared to do things to make her go gaga.

7. SPOIL HER SILLY: God knows where Davido found a girl that doesn't want designer and Ferrari; even guys can’t say no to flashy things. Nigerian girls want to be spoilt with the good things of life so buy your woman all the Ferrari and the designer you can comfortably afford. Take her shopping when you can. Do things that will make her happy at all times and gifts definitely can do that.

8. RESPECT HER BOUNDARIES: we want a bit of privacy when it comes to certain things. Respect those things she terms as her boundaries. Do not force her to do what you want her to do and break her boundaries or you may come off as bossy. A Nigerian woman wants to feel loved and not controlled.

For a Nigerian woman, be the man that will complement her. Be a man to her out of bed and in bed; if you are sexually active. Satisfy her physically, sexually, financially (there is absolutely nothing wrong with that) and emotionally.

Here are 7 tips to help every student pass exams, based on my personal experience:

1.       No limiting belief please
–          Remove the limiting belief that you can’t pass.
–          If you believe you can pass or you believe you cannot pass, you are right.
–          I have seen students under the impression that examiner is their enemy. Please don’t think so. Pass percentage might be low, but students do pass their exams. So, don’t think that you will be in a failure category ever.

2.       Understand the structure of paper
–          First of all, understand the structure of paper – is there any marks allocation for a particular topic?
–          Secondly, if there is marks allocation, is examiner following it? The best thing to do is to review the past five papers.
–          What is the key topic i.e. examiner’s favorite? Is there any article by examiner in the Students’ Journal or any other relevant student magazine? Study that topic and prepare for it, even if you don’t like it!

3.       Taking notes
–          Prepare for exams by way of ‘notes’ which you can recall quickly at the time of taking exam. This will help in two manner. First, when you write, you are in better picture of giving your mind instruction through written letters. Secondly, you can revise from your notes instead of opening the book when exam day is near. Here is my strategy for taking notes:
–          Take a paper and turn it in landscape format.
–          Put three columns in landscape form.
–          Once done, take synopsis of a chapter in smaller fonts and the language which you can easily understand.
–          Write bullet points, important concepts and key ideas which you need to remember.
–          These notes should be used at the time when paper is on head and you need to revise whole subject in two to three hours.

4.       Remembering / memorizing key ideas and formulae
–          One of the key ideas to memorize ideas e.g. formulae, is to write them in small charts and hang it in front of your bed.
–          See those formulae daily before going to bed and rising up.
–          Use different colours and markers.
–          Believe me, in my statistics paper, I was recalling the formulae in the exact colours which I wrote on charts.

5.       Exam practice
–          Practice mock exam – be your own examiner.
–          Take any past paper and solve it as a mock exam.
–          Solve past paper in the time allocated in exam. Think you are in exam hall and solve the paper accordingly.
–          Check your paper and give yourself marks.
–          See how are you performing in mock exam and be sincere to yourself.

6.       Time your paper
– Here is technique to time your paper: Take total marks and total time. Subtract 10 minutes from the total minutes. Divide the remainder with the marks and you get time per marks
– example: If there are 100 marks for a paper and you have 180 minutes. Subtract 10 minutes. This means you have 170 minutes altogether or 1.7 minutes per mark.
– make sure that you don’t spend more that 1.7 minutes per mark e.g. if a question is of 10 marks, maximum time you should spend should be 17 minutes.
– It happens that students try to focus on one particular question and if they are unable to solve it, they get confused. Don’t panic. Start next question. If student has time, he / she can take up that particular question later on.
– Try to allocate 10 minutes at the end of exam to review the paper thoroughly.

7.       Don’t annoy examiner/supervisor/invigilator
See for spelling errors and writing style. Writing needs to be legible and understandable. From my personal experience, I have noticed that spelling errors and the way some students write, at times, is not understandable. Examiner has very less time to check paper. If your paper is examiner friendly, you are going to attract good marks.

The Student Services Office operating under Eastern Mediterranean University, Registrar’s Office, supports students of EMU in carrying out immigration procedures. In this respect, Eastern Mediterranean University gives the said students the chance to carry out their immigration procedures at the university.

EMU Student Services Office stated that EMU spends its best efforts in minimizing the difficulties students encounter while carrying out their immigration procedures. In this respect, the said office assists students who have newly arrived in the TRNC as well as those who wish to renew their existing immigration permit.

At the end of each semester and twice a year, EMU Student Services Office works in collaboration with the district office, hospitals and income and taxation department in carrying out the immigration procedures for the said students.

Students who wish to obtain an immigration permit during the Spring Semester of 2015 – 2016 Academic Year are advised to visit EMU Student Services Office and initiate the relevant procedures until 30 November, 2016.

POINTS TO BE OBSERVED DURING EXAMINATIONS

1.      Be at the examination hall at least 5 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
2.       Any student who is at most 20 minutes late and before any student leaving the examination hall will be accepted to take the examination. Such students will not be given extra time.
3.       It is compulsory to present your identity card / passport or your student identification card during the exam.
4.       Write your identity details in INK on your exam paper, as shown on your Student ID card at the beginning of the exam.
5.       Sign the attendance paper using a ball point or ink.
6.       Mobile phones and other communication devices can not be used in the exam hall for any reason.
7.       Items such as pencils, pens, erasers, and any other item permitted by the instructor for the purpose of the exam must be brought to the examination hall. Exchanging of these items between students during the examination is not permitted.
8.       Do not ask any questions related with the examination to the invigilators.
9.       Adhere to the instructions of the invigilator issued to maintain the peaceful conducting of the examination.

Concepts like 'sacrifice' and 'determination' come to mind when one listens to the stories of student mothers. Their courage is commendable and their struggles are an example to us all. 

Motherhood is a great honor and privilege yet it is also synonymous with servant-hood. Everyday, women are called upon to selflessly meet the needs of their families. The task of being a student is challenging at the best of times! Study, attending classes and seminars, and do quizzes, home works, exams, term papers, and projects. When you add to this, a mother 'workload' in caring for a child - feeding, bathing, carrying him/her and to this, add being in a foreign land and a different culture with different expectations and social norms! What a potentially overwhelming situation.

Suffice to say that the number of 'non-traditional' students - in this case, STUDENT MOTHERS, - is growing at EMU. On the one hand, this is great news; women with children are finding the courage and the energy to make the necessary commitment to transform their lives through education. On the other hand, it is very important for the EMU community to recognize the huge toll that being both student and mother can take on a woman.

Some student mothers on campus are sharing their experiences and expressing the difficulties and demands they face although they are hesitant to speak openly.

Concepts like 'sacrifice' and 'determination' come to mind when one listens to the stories of student mothers. Their courage is commendable and their struggles are an example to us all. 

Of course, being away from their extended families and their homes mean that the usual traditional sources of support - psychology, cultural, and financial, are much more difficult, if not impossible, to receive.

Students are thrown back on their own confidence and energy. When there is a problem, which of course will arise from time to time, it can affect attendance in class, student moral and perhaps place extraordinary stress on an individual.

"These students have very often traveled long distances to grasp the opportunities higher education offers them - to improve their own life's and ultimately, the lives of their children. Unfortunately, while pursuing their goals, they come into confilct witih structural restrictions around them"

As the number of student mothers increases, it will be important to consider additional services - services that, one day, we can hope will 'go without saying' or be part of the normal fabric of university life.

Things like affordable childcare - so that mother and child are not negatively affected by heavy student workload. We have to remember that not all student mothers might afford the cost of private nannies for their children. We should expect that as the plight of student mothers and their children moves more into the consciousness of the university community, allocations for affordable childcare will become the norm. From the university point of view, this might even prove an attractive environment to attract more 'non-traditional' students who have always thought about their desire for an education but were worried because they have a child or children.

Let us remember that as a university - an intellectual community - it's our job to be one step ahead of the society. We need to recognize that being a mother has often being unfairly treated - it is the unpaid, unrecognized and often unnoticed work that women do. And let's not pretend that this is not work crucial to the continuation of society.

STUDENT MOTHERS are studying to become the proud success stories as graduates of EMU. Surely we can also start working now to become proud of the way that our university treats the student-mothers with children? Perhaps this is the right time to begin developing a scheme for STUDENT MOTHERS.

General Information About the Program
The major goal of the Animation and Game Design program is focused on educating students in the latest tools and technologies used to create digital and interactive content to offer a future for its graduates. The Program enables students to advance their applicable skills and knowledge, and develop their artistic expression through courses that are aligned with current industry demands.

The course curriculum will offer a foundation of traditional drawing, illustration, and art courses in addition to courses in 2D and 3D animation, sound design, storyboarding, character development, and game technologies.

Education
A fine balance between theoretical and practical courses will ensure educational effectiveness. Students will not only have knowledge on the keys concepts related to animation and game design, but they will also have the skills and know-how of applying this knowledge to their field of interest.

In short, the program seeks to impart to its students strong technical competence in fundamental arts principles along with specialized competence in the tools needed to be successful in the field of interactive entertainment. At the same time the program seeks to nourish a student’s creative talents through opportunities for internships and special projects, allowing students to develop a personal aesthetic as well as a high standard of individual excellence and professionalism.

Facilities
The Department is equipped with state-of- the-art facilities that will allow students to produce world-class animations and games. In addition to three Mac-labs, students have access to an all-PC computer lab with power to handle even the most demanding projects. A motion capture studio for realistic human animations is also available for students. Furthermore, a fully-equipped green screen studio, as well as a professional-grade photography studio, provide ample production opportunities for students. Within the faculty, student have access to television studios, audio studios, editing suites and video equipment as well.



Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Department of Animation and Game Design will have ample job opportunities in various fields. For example, graduates will easily be able to work in animation and game design firms, advertising agencies, production companies and TV stations as producers, art directors, animators, character designers, interface designers and visual effects supervisors. Because of relatively low business-entrance costs, students will also be able to establish their own production companies and serve the animation and game design markets globally.

Eastern Mediterranean University, Engineering Faculty, Computer Engineering Department students Esma Şenses and Mahmut Sevince received the best project certificate for their graduation project entitled “Fingerprint Based Attendance System”.

Students of Eastern Mediterranean University, Engineering Faculty, Computer Engineering Department are required to complete their graduation projects carried out within the last two semesters of their studies in order to fulfill their graduation conditions. The said projects are developed in line with the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) criteria.

The “Fingerprint Based Attendance System’ prototype has the quality of operating both on mobile phones, PCs and laptops. The system enables the user to take attendance in class and at workplaces. Through the said system, students or employees may be monitored throughout the day in an automated fashion. Records may be followed through PCs, mobile phones or other systems. The designed system is user-friendly and mobile. During the upcoming days, EMU is planning to apply to other organisations to spread the usage of the said system.

Leader of the project group Esma Şenses stated that the project which took a year to finish has successfully turned into a professional job opportunity. Şenses also put forth that the product which is portable and low in cost will have high preferability within the sector. Mahmut Sevince stated that after improving the visibility of the project, they will introduce it to the market. Students of the project group also expressed their happiness in belonging to the EMU community and added that it is due to the high quality education they received that they achieved success.
