#Throwback | INCUMBENT Mr Nigeria Celebrates Independence With Photo-shoot [PICS]

No matter what tribe or religion we represent, we are all Nigerians. Even as we celebrated our Independence, let's strive for Peace, Love and Unity. We are ONE. God Bless Nigeria. #ONENIGERIA #HAPPYINDEPENDENCEDAY #OCTOBER1ST

It will be be recalled that Emmanuel Ikubese, who came 2nd At Mr World Contest held a few months back at the Riviera International Conference Centre, Torbay, UK, has expressed his crush on Genevieve Nnaji and Rita Dominic.

The Delta State born entertainer had this to say on why he is attracted to these screen goddesses:
Yes, I used to have a crush on Mercy Johnson until she got married. Then I stopped because it is not good to crush on married women to avoid getting into trouble. Then Genevieve, Rita Dominic and Omotola too. I respect hardworking women a lot. I am still looking forward to the movie where I would play a romantic scene like a boyfriend to Genevieve or Rita. I really love those two.”

Nigeria @ 55 | Amarachi Obeh - Quotes and Sayings for Anniversary Celebration [OPINION]

In Unity we will triumph, irrespective of any challenge facing us. Let us stand together at all times, Nigerians. Happy Independence Anniversary! God bless our Country.  The day of independence is recognized as October 1, 1960. The break came after years of work by Nigerians.

Check out some quotes and sayings below.

1. “We want to lead a country where people will be less greedy. Where people will know that the commonwealth of Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians, where people’s wealth depends on the people around you. If you become a rich person and everyone around you is poor you are very poor.” — President Goodluck Jonathan

2. “As Nigeria marks its 54th anniversary of Independence on October 1, the American people join me in wishing the people of Nigeria a memorable celebration filled with joy and increased national unity. -— U.S President Barack Obama

3. “Nigeria is like everywhere, really: there are some beautiful places that have been invested in and others that haven’t been.” — Tinie Tempah

4. “Nigeria is what it is because its leaders are not what they should be.” – Chinua Achebe

5. “Looking at faces of people, one gets the feeling there’s a lot of work to be done.” – Wole Soyinka

6. “Nigeria has had a complicated colonial history. My work has examined that part of our story extensively.” — Chinua Achebe

7. “Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa. If Nigeria succeeds at democratic governance it will be an anchor for all of West Africa. Africa needs a strong Nigeria.” — Ed Royce

8. “Well, Nigeria has played a constructive role in peacekeeping in various parts of West Africa. But unless and until Nigeria itself is democratic and respects human rights, it too may well be a source of much greater instability as political repression limits the ability of the people of Nigeria to achieve their full potential.” — Susan Rice

9. “Each one of us, and, indeed, all those who aspire to national leadership must bring their own visions, views and styles to the business of reforming Nigeria, and the search for solutions.” — Ibrahim Babangida

10. “There is no country in the world with the diversity, confidence and talent and black pride like Nigeria.” — Binyavanga Wainaina

11. “So many times I’ve encountered people who are just kind of like, ‘Yeah, Nigeria,’ and, you know, thump their chest and seem very sure of, like, being Nigerian. And I’m just kind of, like, I wish I could be that sure.” — Helen Oyeyemi

NIGERIA @ 55 | Abdulsadiq Ahmed Jari - Prospects and Challenges of Nigeria at 55 [OPINION]

Nigeria has witnessed development and challenges in its quest for nation-building. The peak of its development was independence and self-rule. Its golden time was during the First Republic. It’s most challenging time is the current insecurity. Against all odds, Nigeria is still a single country under the same leader.

Our dear nation is yet to take its rightful place in the comity of nations. Corruption, electoral malpractice, rigging, bribery, bad leadership, immorality etc still remain an impediment to our aspirations. Economic development and industrialization are gradually staging a comeback again as in the 1960s.

Literacy and educational development are fast becoming more accepted. A lot of young Nigerians now have masters and doctorate degrees in various fields, both in Nigeria and abroad. A lot having the best results in the foreign schools they attended.Civility and civilisation is finding its way into Nigeria. Just about 12 years ago, mobile networks were first allowed into Nigeria. Now , Nigerian is one of their largest markets in the world.

A lot of associations and NGOs are now operating in Nigeria. A lot of them are contributing positively to the development of the country. Many are still underway, as people now see vividly the importance of such associations. Democracy is consolidating its stay. It  is 15 years now since the return of civilian leadership. For the first time 2007, we witnessed transition of power from one civilian government to another civilian administration – that was another milestone achievement. On the contrary, we still have a lot of challenges to overcome if we truly want to be a nation to reckon with.

Corruption still remains a negative factor in Nigeria. The leadership of the country must take it serious. It must be stopped for our nation to be a disciplined and a prosperous nation.Literacy and education must be made free and accessible. Since Nigeria is a mixed economy country, basics like education must remain in the hands of the government. No to privatization of educational sector.

With the population of over 90 million youths from the age of 15-45, employment and jobs opportunities should be made a long and mid-term top priority plan of the both the federal and state governments. Stable and prosperous youths remain the answer to Nigeria’s peace and security. This is because it is the youths that are being turned to political thugs, thieves and even militants that will later come back and fight the government. Other challenges include sectional and tribal sentiments and divisions between Nigerians.

The government should try to unite the people of the country to have a united and strong country..

We remain in prayers for our beloved fatherland (Nigeria) and our leaders. Let God guide them aright and protect us.

Ghanaian students enrolled at Cyprus International University celebrated the 58th anniversary of Ghana’s Independence with a joyful and well-attended event. The celebration was held at the Student Union Center and commenced with Ghana’s national anthem, “God Bless Our Homeland Ghana”, sang by two students. Turkish students as well as students from diverse countries attending the event supported their colleagues by clapping and dancing along. A video clip presenting the history and natural colours of Ghana was projected.

The Vice Rector of the Cyprus International University Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri also delivered a speech to students during the event. Prof. Nadiri said, “I am very happy to be with our students on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of Ghana’s Independence Day. It is with students from 72 different countries enrolled at our university that we are celebrating this special day. Universities have a major role to play in turning individuals into true citizens of the world. At Cyprus International University we are striving to make citizens of the world out of our students”.

Speaking at the event, Gizem Kavaz from the CIU International Office said, “Freedom and justice is of utmost significance for all human beings. I have been to Ghana on many occasions, I can thus relate to the feelings of our Ghanaian students. Everyone needs to feel at home; we are doing our best to make our students feel themselves at home here at CIU”.

CIU students speaking on the celebration of the Ghanaian Day of Independence:
Berihold Appiah Nkwaniabısa (Ghana – Department of Pharmacy):
It made me very happy to celebrate the independence of my country here in Cyprus, away from home, in the company of people of different cultures.  This was just like home, celebrations taking place in a wide open area with lots of people dancing.
Mohamed S. Alhasan (Libya – Department of Bioengineering)
I had never been present for such a celebration before. Through the video projection on Ghana I was able to discover Ghana. It is a true pleasure to discover different cultures here at the Cyprus International University.

Biography:

Dr Bala Adamu Azare was born at Azare, in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

He started his early education at the Nasarawa West Primary School, Azare in 1973. He attended Government Science Secondary School and later proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria where he obtained his Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) Degree, in Zoology in 1988. He had his Master in Applied Parasitology from Abubakar Tafawa University, Bauchi and later bagged his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D), also in Applied Parasitology in 2005 at the University of Abuja.

His working career which spans over 24years now started in 1989 first, as a Youth Corps member at Doherty Memorial Grammar School, Ijero-Ekiti, where he distinguished himself as the Acting Head of Biology Department and a very sound Biology teacher. He had barely settled down in the School when he started to demonstrate serious work-habits of resilience, hardwork, commitment, team spirit, loyalty and patriotism which culminated in the success recorded by majority of the students who sat for WASCE in Biology.

His intellectual prowess and exceptional brilliance in all Science subjects, particularly Biology, encouraged many students of the School to develop uncommon interest in Science subjects at that time. Dr Bala singled himself out from his other colleaguesposted to the school and the entire Ijero Local Government as a hardworking and resourceful corps member to the admiration of the then Principal, Mr Akinfesola.

As an amiable and humble personality, he mixed freely with staff and students. He also integrated himself well with the people outside the School Community in a very short time such that it becamedifficult to observe that he hails from the Northern part of the Country.

Dr Bala’s career as a Civil Servant started immediately after the National Youth Service in 1990 when he was employed as an Education Officer by the Bauchi State Government. He was later employed as an Assistant Lecturer at the Abubakar Tatari-Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi from 1992-1994 and in 1995, the University of Abuja engaged him as a Graduate Assistant. By dint of hardwork, he rose to become a Senior Lecturer in 2006 and was appointed the Head of Department of Biological Sciences in 2007. Due to his intelligence and experience, he was appointed Rector, Abubakar Tatari-Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi in 2008; a position he holds till date.

Dr Bala is a renowned author who has written so many books in the field of Biological Sciences and has several of his academic research works published in both National and International Journals. He has attended various Seminars and Workshops within and outside Nigeria. He has equally sat on many special Committees and Panels and in the course of service received various awards and commendations. He is a member of various professional bodies and currently the Representative of the Committee of Rectors of Polytechnics on the NYSC National Governing Board.Dr Bala is known for his forthrightness, frankness, objectivity and very positive contributions.

Dr Azare is a trusted nationalist and a completelydetribalized Nigerian whose patriotic attitude and way of life are worthy of emulation by all Nigerians across ethnic divide. This he demonstrated again recently when he came to the Southwest on official assignment and took the pain outside the call of duty to travel down to Ijero Ekiti where he had earlier laid the foundation for a meritorious and rewarding Public Service career.

A man who could still remember and call the people he related with by name after twenty-five years of contact; a man, who could be identified easily by indigenes of Ijero Ekiti when he visited two months ago; is indeed a man of the people. Such a man of peace and progress, an ardent believer and promoter of national unity and integration, which the NYSC preaches; deserves to be remembered, honoured and celebrated by the Community he once assisted and still holds dearly in his heart.

It is on account of these numerous attributes that His Royal Majesty, Owa-Ajero of Ijero Kingdom, the Chiefs, Princes and Princesses and the good people ofIjero Land; considered Dr Bala Adamu Azare worthy of honour and conferment of the prestigious Chieftaincy title as the OTUNBA ILUFEMILOYE OF IJEROLAND.
