NEW RESEARCH: Attending live music events 'reduces your levels of stress hormone'

Attending a live music performance can reduce a person's levels of stress hormone cortisol, a new study has shown.

Researchers studied 117 volunteers attending two concerts of music by composer Eric Whitacre at recent events.

The volunteers provided saliva samples before the performances, and then again during the interval an hour later. Testing the samples for levels of cortisol and cortisone, researchers recorded across-the-board reductions in the second samples.

Cortisol is produced by the body under physical or psychological stress.  It can have a positive effect in small doses, improving alertness and well-being. However, chronically elevated cortisol levels can worsen medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and impotency.

"These results are in line with 22 previous studies showing that listening to music in the controlled setting of either a laboratory or a hospital can reduce cortisol levels," researcher said.

"It is of note that none of these biological changes were associated with age, musical experience or familiarity with the music being performed. This suggests there is a universal response to concert attendance among audience members."

However, they noted that the study focused "solely on the effects of relatively calm, classical music; more research will be needed to ascertain whether other genres of music elicit different effects or whether attending other types of cultural events has different endocrine impact.

"Nevertheless, this study opens up the question of how engaging with music and the arts in cultural settings can influence biological and psychological states and, consequently, the potential of cultural events to enhance people's broader health and well-being."

FRESH VIDEO: Duncan Daniels – Unconditional Love [Happy Valentine's]

Duncan Daniels as you've NEVER HEARD HIM. He has the ability and talent to produce great music, as we all know but this song takes you to the “love island” like Sade would set you on sail.
Easy, sexy music that you can sink into. It grabs you immediately and pulls you in!

Duncan has mastered the key to making a successful love song that passes a clear and concise message, making the audience (women in this case), feel that the song is solely written for them, and always assuring them of love that knows no end. With no surprise Duncan Daniels manages to make a beautifully written ballad that’s fresh, yet uncontrived”.

DANCE VIDEO: Ghetto Kids in an almost perfect dance step to 'Sorry - by Justin Bieber'

The Ghetto Kids need no introduction. But here goes; The kids first came to light when they featured in Edris Musuuza (Eddy Kenzo)'s Sitya Loss music video, 2014. According to them, 2014 is a year they will never forget.

They danced to the song that translates into "I don't fear defeat", with no fancy costumes and no care in the world. They were themselves in a way only kids can be - dropping into splits, crumpling and even perfecting deadweight drops, all in endearing dance moves.

WOW: Someone Recorded Crickets then Slowed Down the Track, And they Sound ...

A composer by the name of Jim Wilson has recorded the sound of crickets and then slowed down the recording, revealing something so amazing. The crickets sound like they are singing the most beautiful chorus in perfect harmony.

"I discovered that when I slowed down this recording to various levels, this simple familiar sound began to morph into something very mystic and complex ... almost human."

This recording contains two tracks played at the same time: The first is the natural sound of crickets played at regular speed while the second is the slowed down version of crickets’ voices.

“This turns out to be a recording of crickets slowed down by Tom Waits, an approximation of what they might sound like if they lived as long as humans. “What you hear is like human voices, or choirs from heaven,” Wilson says.” – The Guardian

Nigerian Born, EMU Graduate CHUCHU MOVAIN excels in Turkish competition THE RISING STAR [VIDEO]

Rising Star is an international reality television singing competition based on the Israeli singing competition HaKokhav HaBa (meaning "The Next Star") made by Keshet Broadcasting Ltd. The program format lets viewers vote for contestants via mobile apps. The Turkish version has been running for years and EMU Graduate, Chuchu Movain has steadily risen in it's ranks to become a very popular contestant in Turkey

In contrast to other singing competition TV shows which feature a cast of celebrity judges, Rising Star features a cast of celebrity experts and considers the viewers at home the judges. During each performance, the audience at home is able to decide in real time whether or not a contestant is sent through to the next round by using a mobile voting app.

While the viewers at home are considered the "judges", the expert panelists also may influence the vote but with continuously decreasing percentage votes over the total public vote and not exceeding 7% of the total voting power.

Watch video of one of Chuchu's performance below:
