Exhibition with a Different angle organized by CIU students of Department of Industrial Product Design.

Students from the Cyprus International University Department of Industrial Product Design adopted a different approach this year when organizing the exhibition for projects made during their applied courses.

Enriched with prototype products created in real-life dimensions, and video films of presentations, the exhibition took place on 14 May 2015 in the studio where the project course was held.  Students were also responsible for organizing the studio in a manner that would render it compatible with a different function.

Organized under guidance of the CIU academician and Industrial Designer Hanife Yıldız Peyravi, part–time lecturer Zeref Birsel, and studio director Seyit Ermiyagil, the exhibition aimed at providing the students an opportunity to earn experience in team-work and exhibition, and to become aware of the importance of creative presentation techniques in a professional context.

The exhibition contained objects of different scales from sample accessories, glasses, and cups, to lighting elements created during courses such as metal and wood technology, ergonomics, package design, innovation technology, modeling and design, and design history in addition to objects created in the design studio, varying from chess sets to bath-tub screens and related products.

The film and slide shows presenting the hat and spectacle accessories created by students as their warm-up projects at the beginning of the semester attracted much attention. A Nigerian student from the Department of Industrial Product Design made an interesting contribution to the exhibition by playing live ethnic music. Also designed and created by students, a real life-scale frame was used by visitors for taking souvenir photos.

Underlining the significance in design education of sharing, Head of the Industrial Product Design Department of the CIU Faculty of Fine Arts Assistant Prof. Dr. Devrim Yücel Besim explained in his inauguration speech that such exhibitions would be repeated with a different approach at the end of every academic year.
