EUL Rector: “ The New academic year will be a year of escalation for EUL”

Within the scope of European University of Lefke 2014-15 Academic Year opening, a “General Academic Meeting” was held at Rauf Raif Denktaş Education Complex at 10 o’clock on 22 September 2014.
Opening speech of the meeting, which was organized with the participation of EUL deans, departmental heads, academic and administrative staff, was delivered by the EUL Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen.
During the meeting, Yükselen informed the participants about academic structuring processes, environmental / landscaping plans, 3 big projects carried out by EUL, new undergraduate and graduate programs and the number of the students.
34.95% increase in the number of students in one year
Yükselen said that they got together to evaluate the developments took place last year and share the objectives set for this academic year. He also added that the number of students increased from 3854 to 5201, which is beyond the goals they set previous year.Moreover, he drew attention to the fact that this is the first time in the history of EUL in 24 years that the university has more that 5000 students.
Yükselen evaluated the increase in the number of students
He stated that there is a 26.5% increase in the number of students who registered with LYS (undergraduate placement exam) results and a 37.8% increase in the number of students who registered with DGS (external transfer exam) results when compared with the previous academic year. He also explained that EUL had students from 38 different countries in the previous academic year, but this year this figure increased to 44. Within this context, he emphasized the fact that EUL is on the way to become a Global University very soon.
Having informed participant about new academic staff, academic programs, and physical infrastructure of the university, he said that the number of current academic staff was increased and EUL started the new academic year with 145 academic staff with PhD. Furthermore, he stated that there have been various changes in academic structuring and academic promotions are being awarded swiftly in accordance with the predetermined criteria.
Investments in EUL continue at an increasing rate
Yükselen mentioned the innovations in transportation facilities, IT infrastructure, labs and classrooms and added that ongoing II. and III. project stages for Faculty of Health Sciences and the the dormitory construction are about to finish thanks to the contribution of the Embassy of Turkey in Nicosia and also said that Amphitheater Project for the Faculty of Law is in the tender process. Yükselen extended his thanks to the Embassy of Turkey for their unsparing support in EUL infrastructure investments all the time.
Lastly, he said that that year is the 25th anniversary of the foundation of EUL and there will be various activities within this scope and claimed that new accreditation processes will also be initiated at a high speed on the 25th foundation year of the university. At the end of the meeting, Yükselen also extended his thanks to the academic and administrative staff for their participation and wished them success.
