Cyprus International University [CIU] Greets Freshmen with Orientation Program

Cyprus International University concluded its Orientation program for freshman students enrolling for the 2014-2015 Spring  semester, enabling students to discover the historical colour of the island.

Organised with the aim of presenting North Cyprus and university life to the arriving students, as well as giving students a good start in their new academic lives, the orientation program lasted for three days.

On the first day of the event, CIU staff members told students about the various administrative units at CIU. On the occasion of inauguration of the orientation program, presentations were made in Çevik Uraz Conference Hall by officers from various administrative units, including the Registrar’s Office, Student Affairs, Library, Information Center, and the Directorate for the Halls of Residence.

On the second day of the orientation program students embarked on a Famagusta city tour where they saw the ancient Roman City Salamis, St. Nicholas’s Cathedral (also known as the Lala Mustafa Paşa Mosque), and the Namık Kemal Dungeon and Museum. The excursion revolved around the city in the company of professional guides who informed students on the history of Cyprus in general, and on the historical venues visited by the students during the trip. The picnic break was a perfect opportunity for students from different cultures and countries to mingle.

During the Kyrenia city tour held on the last day of the orientation program, students visited the city center, Kyrenia Castle, and Kyrenia Harbour. The Harbour was the most popular venue visited by students in Kyrenia.

After two days of excursions students enjoyed dancing to music during the on-campus party where  DJs performed.

SONY DSCSpeaking on the orientation program, the CIU freshmen partaking in the program pointed to the important role of these excursions on the student morale, wishing for more frequent organization of these types of activities.
