For the first time in 40 Years!: Finally, Electricity Grid reconnected across North and South Cyprus

The electricity grid on both sides in the island has been re-connected for the first time in 40-years. A remarkable achievement and feat in the current productive political talks of Island wide
re-unification.

According to a report by ‘Kibris Gazetesi’, “reliable sources” say that work for reconnecting both networks had been done in two stages and that the final stage should be completed by this weekend.

With the electric power supply connected across the island, the South will provide electricity to the North in case of major power cuts or other emergency events. The report adds that the new network will ensure continuity of supply.

The electricity network connection also aims to stabilise the systems of production, communication and distribution and to increase the quality of the network.
