The Department of Human Resources: Top five Cyprus jobs of tomorrow
Have you ever wondered how many new accountants will be hired in the next few years in Cyprus? How about waiters and waitresses? A new study gives some answers to one of the biggest questions on young people’s minds.
The Department of Human Resources recently published a study on the jobs of the future during the period from 2014 until 2024, looking at over 300 professions in three different categories: low, middle, and high level income.
The study took into consideration several factors, including the total number of jobs, evaluations of job prospects and market demands. It found that total employment is likely to get over the negative impact of the economic crisis and actually jobs will increase over the years.
The last increase in job numbers peaked to 398,214 persons in 2011 and then fell due to the economic crisis to 365,078 persons in 2013, according to the study.
But things will turn around according to the Human Resources state authority.
The top five jobs are expected to be mostly in the service industry, according to the study, where in fact eight out of ten workers will have jobs doing justice to the well-known “service profile” of the Cypriot economy.
Car repair and jobs in the automobile industry in general seem to be favoured by the study, as those professions ranked number one. Hotels and restaurants came in second, and teachers or educators got third place. Professional or scientific endeavours got number four, followed by the construction industry.
The study also found that 50% of the workforce will be holding down a middle-level job, meaning professions where degrees and diplomas in higher education are not required.
