METU University - TRNC presents Green Brain of the Year 2016 [Competition]

ABOUT THE CONTEST

METU NCC Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems Graduate Program, which has been established as a unique academic program in the Middle East to serve the most critical needs of our globe in the 21st century, proudly presents the Green Brain of the Year Contest. The contest has been devised to increase and enhance the international awareness of the Vital Triad: Sustainable Environment, Sustainable Energy, and Sustainable Water Resources among youth, specifically high school and university students.

Green Brain of the Year Contest accepts submissions from university students. The contest is also known as the International Project Competition (IPC), and emphasizes original ideas which have been evaluated for feasibility. The competitors are expected to form a team of two, come up with an original project to tackle a sustainability problem in support of the Vital Triad, analyze feasibility, and submit their work in a properly formatted paper (according to the provided IPC guide) of up to 2000 words in English. A limited number of figures and tables can be used to describe the addressed problem, the solution as a system and/or a process flow, feasibility and results. The electronic submissions through the IPC web site will be evaluated by a jury panel based on:

*Problem Relevance to Sustainability,
*Originality, Feasibility, and Impact of Solution,
*Verification of Feasibility through Analysis or Experimentation,
*Quality of Writing and Illustrations.

Application deadline is 25 May 2016.

The five finalist teams from both ICPC and IPC will be invited to METU NCC (all expenses paid) in September 2016 to present their project in front of the jury.

The winner team will earn the title of “Green Brain of the Year 2015” (IPC). All finalists will attend a guided tour in Northern Cyprus. The first, second, and third runner-up team members will be rewarded a cash prize. (Both  team members have to do the presentations on the campus personally)

We would like to hereby invite talented university students to submit their projects to IPC 2016, and start contributing ideas to a sustainable future for our beautiful globe.

Beauty Pageants – Effects Beauty Pageants Have on Self-Image and Self-Esteem

When a girl, teen or woman decides to enter a beauty pageant, there will always be someone in her life who will make statements about the negative effects that competing in a pageant  will have on her self-image.

You need be honest with yourself. What do you want from the beauty pageant experience? For women, there’s nothing wrong with a pageant competition to recharge your battery, or to experience a glamorous, fun event. The last time you may have dressed up in formal attire was your high school graduation or similar events. It’s very positive to take some time for yourself to enjoy the company of other accomplished women and celebrate you.

However, if there is a little voice inside telling you that “capturing this crown will finally prove I’m beautiful”; or ” I’ll finally be someone important as Miss/Mrs__”, rethink competing at this time.

Participating in a beauty pageant will build self-esteem and self-image if used as a tool to polish the complete healthy person that you already are. Pageants open career doors, provide an opportunity for community service, develop confidence and communication skills, and are fun. A professional, experienced pageant coach can help keep you on track. I can’t stress enough the importance of surrounding yourself with people who make you feel better about who you are when you’re with them.

If however, you’re using beauty pageants as a way to try to fill an empty hole or prove to someone that you’re good enough, that’s a danger zone and I would recommend you rethink contesting such competitions.

In life, we use different opportunities to develop skills and qualities within ourselves. Every opportunity is a different tool. Just like I would never use a hammer to cut a piece of wood, or a saw to pound in a nail, pageants are just one type of tool that can be used to build a contestant’s confidence, speaking skills, and self-image. However, It’s not the right tool for every girl or woman.

The building up or tearing down of your self-esteem and self-image takes place in all areas of your life: business, sports, dance, academics, beauty, cheerleading, service etc. The activities themselves are neither bad nor good. Instead, it’s your attitude while participating in the activity that will produce either positive or negative effects in your life. You just need to find the right development tool for you.

In view of that, The organizing committee for the 2016 Miss Africa EMU is out with an online form to help those that want to contest for the coveted crown. This was initiated to make it easier for anyone to register, whether from home, church, market, etc :)

Kindly follow the link below and submit your details and other requirements for the crown.
