Foreign students will be banned from working and forced to leave the UK when their course ends

Foreign students are to be banned from working in Britain under a fresh crackdown on immigration ordered by Home Secretary Theresa May. When courses finish they will have to leave the country before reapplying to return for a job.

Ministers say the new rules, which will apply to all those from outside the European Union, will stop colleges being used as a 'back door to a British work visa'.

Official figures show that 121,000 non-EU students entered the UK in the 12 months to June last year, but only 51,000 left – a net influx of 70,000.

The government estimates that the number of foreign students coming to the UK will rise by more than 6 per cent a year up to 2020. Home Secretary Theresa May has taken action against 870 bogus colleges, banning them from taking foreign students.

But the Conservatives have vowed to go further, without the Lib Dems in power to force the rules to be watered down.

They want to stop student visas being used as an easy way to enter the UK before getting a job and claiming benefits.

Under the new rules, non-EU students will be denied the right to work while in the UK and will not be able to apply for a visa extension when their course finishes.

Students will have to leave the country before applying to return under a work visa.

The length of stay is also expected to be cut to two years when the plans are unveiled this week.
Immigration Minister James Brokenshire said it was 'part of our plan to control immigration for the benefit of Britain'.
'Hard-working taxpayers who are helping to pay for publicly funded colleges expect them to be providing topclass education, not a back door to a British work visa.'
Business Secretary Sajid Javid signalled on Friday that the govermment would stop the education system being abused by immigrants.

He said: 'What we need to make sure – and we do have this – is that our immigration system allows those from abroad that want to come to Britain to study in our world-class universities, our fantastic colleges to come here,' he told the Today programme.

'But we've also got to have a system that doesn't allow any abuse when people are using the right to study as a way to achieve settlement in Britain.

'So we've got to break the link and make sure it's focused on people who want to study and then, once they've had their studies and completed that, then they leave.'

But universities have warned that any clampdown could damage the sector and business leaders are also wary of the move, warning it could rob Britain of vital skills.

Seamus Nevin, head of employment and skills at the Institute of Directors, said: 'The Business Secretary's proposals to eject foreign students after graduation are misguided and would damage the British education system, our economy and global influence.

'Britain already makes it difficult and artificially expensive for international students to enter and stay, and now these proposals would eject them ignominiously when their studies are finished.

'Restricting talented workers from staying on in the UK would damage business and lead to a loss of important skills.
'Shutting the door to highly-trained international graduates at a time when our economy needs them most would be hugely damaging for UK businesses.
'In the interests our education sector, our businesses, and our international standing, the Business Secretary should reconsider this proposal.'

SHOCKING STUDY: Four out of Five British Women Don't Shower Every Day

Four out of five women admit they don't shower every day, and a third say they can go for three days without washing their body. Survey finds almost two thirds can't be bothered removing make-up before they go to bed, and one in eight don't brush their teeth.

When it comes to washing in the morning, only 21 per cent of females take the time to shower or have a bath every day, with 33 per cent admitting to leaving it as long as three days from wash to wash.

Sixty three per cent admit to not removing makeup before going to sleep after a night out, with 35 per cent of those citing time as the reason.

The fear of having to get up in the morning means they get straight into bed and don't have time to waste washing off the night's excess.

And a shocking one in three have gone as long as three days without washing or wiping their face or body at all.

Time constraints mean that despite knowing the importance of skin care and general hygiene, 57 per cent of UK women admit to opting for a quick freshen up with wipes before bed.

Despite this, of the 2,000 plus women surveyed, 92 per cent claim to understand the importance of a skin care regime and recognised that life-style factors such as lack of sleep (76 per cent) and dehydration (61 per cent) can impact on their skin.

Similarly 89 per cent said they would like to improve their body hygiene but blame evening and morning tiredness for their lack of showers or baths.

Flint + Flint owner Maxine Flint, the study organizers said: "I understand the appeal of a lie-in but skipping a morning wash is both anti-social for the people around us and unhealthy.

"We are talking about routines that literally take minutes out of your day. It's true that today's pace of life is fast but surely as a nation we haven't become too busy to wash.

"We were alarmed to hear about the number of women not looking after their skin by following basic skin care regimes.

"It is so important to clean your face daily and moisturise to slow down the ageing process."

"Furthermore, the majority of women know the importance of following a skin care routine but they still aren't doing it."

TOP TEN: Brits have the world's sexiest accents, survey finds.

London Couple - Image: Matt Dunham/Associated Press
The British Empire may no longer be the biggest on Earth, but the world still thinks their accents are the sexiest.

A British accent is the world's most attractive accent, according to a recent Time Out dating survey. A whopping 27% of 11,000 survey participants in 24 cities across the globe believe British accents easily outpace any other accent.

The United States placed second, with 8.7% of respondents voting that American was their favorite accent. Irish and Australian accents came in at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, meaning English-speaking languages rounded out the top four spots.

Here's the full list:

1. British

American

Irish

Australian

French

Italian

Spanish

Scottish

Latin American

10. Scandinavian

French, the language of love, placed a measly fifth; however, Frenchmen might prefer to cite the findings of a Hotels.com survey from 2013, which found that French was the world's sexiest language.

In 2009, Irish topped the list as world's sexiest accent in a poll of 5,000 women; French placed fourth while British finished at No. 6.

For now, though, the British accent can enjoy its reign. Cheers!
