EMU Freshers’ Student Mentorship Program

The Freshers’ student mentorship Program(FSMP) is designed to cater to the needs of Freshmen(incoming students) who arrive at EMU each semester. It allows Freshmen have contact with existing students here at EMU who are part of the program and who can help answer any questions freshmen have even before their arrival on campus.

Freshmen are assigned Mentors once they receive their Admission letters confirming their acceptance to EMU.  As a result, Freshmen or Mentees are able to know what to expect at EMU in terms of academics, accommodation, social life, sports and any other pressing questions they might have before their arrival.

The FSMP organises several events during the semester like Ice-bowling, go-karting, football Matches, tours to different cities and study tutorials for Mentees which allows freshmen bond not just with their mentor but also with other freshmen.

FSMP also allows freshmen from non-English speaking countries get well adjusted to a culturally diverse community and also improve their communication skills.

For Volunteers (Mentors)

Each Mentor is assigned 3-4 Mentees for the duration of one semester. Once you have been assigned a mentee, it becomes your responsibility to ensure that your mentees settle-in in as little time as possible and become well adjusted and ready to take on university life. Mentors can set flexible meeting times to meet with their mentees each week to find out how their mentees are generally keeping. The Mentor then fills in a short report on the progress of their mentees.

For Mentees

Mentees are matched to mentors based on faculties. Your Mentor will help you find suitable accomodation on arrival, ensure that you are picked from the airport, meet you when you arrive at EMU and help with both your general and course registration. She would help you find your classes easily in the first weeks of your resumption and reduce the amount of times you’ll get lost on campus. Your mentor can show you the best and CHEAPEST places to shop for basic needs in Magusa. Your mentor can also help organise tutorials for you if you need extra help with your lectures.
