Icy and snowy weather gripping mountainous areas of Cyprus [PICS]

Icy weather is gripping the mountainous areas of Cyprus as snow and frost have created treacherous driving conditions.

News reports stated that roads in the Troodos region are open only to vehicles with snow chains or four wheel drive, with the conditions expected to remain the same overnight.

The cold snap which began earlier this week is likely to go on through this weekend, however it will be sunny in many areas during the daytime.

Storms, rain and hail have also caused problems in coastal areas and in villages in the Nicosia district over the past few days.
