CIU Law Academic, Asst. Prof. Fatma Karakaş Doğan publishes Drug Abuse Book

Asst. Prof. Fatma Karakaş Doğan, a lecturer in the CIU Faculty of Law, has published a book entitled “Charges against Drugs and Mind Altering Substances under the Turkish Penal Code”.

Undertaken as an associate professorship thesis, the work was published by the Legal Publication group.

Dr. Doğan explained that the book approached drugs and mind altering substances under two distinct categories of organic and chemical substances, covering typology as well as the side effects of these substances. Dr. Doğan pointed out that a substantial part of the book dwelled on the Turkish Penal Code, whilst penal codes of various countries were also covered in other parts of the book.

Stating that new articles in the Turkish Penal Code had been added to laws pursuant to the substantial changes of June 2014, Dr. Doğan underlined that new institutions had been established and charges concerning production and use of the controlled substances had been made heavier.

Presenting her aim in the book to be raising awareness across the entire range of institutions and individuals, Dr. Doğan said, “people are surely well informed on many topics, yet our duty is to constantly serve as reminders of the acquired knowledge. Refreshing public memory will do no harm”.
