US Vice President's Special Advisor for Europe and Eurasia Michael Carpenter has reiterated his country's support to negotiations aiming to solve the problem of Cyprus.

He also expressed the readiness of the US to contribute, in the most appropriate way possible, to the achievement of a just, viable and functional settlement, that will reunite the institutions, the economy and the people.

Carpenter was speaking during a meeting he had on Monday 8th June in Washington with Greek Cypriot Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Cypriots Fotis Fotiou, with whom he discussed, inter alia, developments in the Cyprus issue, the issue of missing persons and bilateral relations between Cyprus and the US.

According to an official press release issued yesterday, referring to the Cyprus problem, the US official expressed the wish that the two leaders, Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akıncı will make use of the current favourable conjuncture, and expressed the full support of the US to the negotiations which are currently underway.
