All eyes on the minimum wage limit in TRNC and the proposed increase

A report by Filiz Seyis for KIBRIS POSTASI takes a closer look at the minimum wage limit and the increased cost of living.

With the increase in foreign currency exchange rates and the cost of living and the fact that everything is indexed to the foreign currency in north Cyprus, those on minimum wages are finding it harder and harder to get by. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission convened yesterday but was unable to reach a conclusion on the outcome.

The commission which had met on the 30th of June held another meeting yesterday and was unable to secure an agreement here too. The next meeting is scheduled for 9 July at 1000 and thousands of public servants have their eyes on it. Whilst employers are finding it hard and complaining about economic issues, it is seen as a miracle that employees, especially those with families, are expected to get by on 1,675TL a month.
