Kyrenia municipality health department warns on stranding of dogs

The health department of the Kyrenia Municipality has made an announcement for dog owners.

A statement released from the municipality has asked dog owners not to leave their dogs stranded; in the event that this is identified, a penalty will be paid of 4 times the minimum wage limit and/or 6 months in jail, stemming from the law on animal welfare.

Stranding of dogs has led to the uncontrollable increase of street animals which is also becoming a nuisance in the town centre.

Meanwhile the local council health department and Kyrenia Animal Rescue Centre have begun a joint venture for street dogs. After complaints had come that ticks were seen on the Ziya Rizki Street in Kyrenia, the health department disinfected the street and the Animal Rescue took care of the dogs. Sick or ill dogs were taken to the clinic for treatment.
