UPDATE: -5'C expected this weekend as Cyprus to stay Cold and Windy

Temperatures across Cyprus are colder than normal for this time of year and that is due to cold winds sweeping across the island, according to the Meteorological Services.

Speaking to state radio on Friday morning, Authorities said cold winds have prompted temperatures to drop four to five degrees lower than normal for this time of year.

“We are expecting a buildup of clouds but not any rain showers,” “But we are experiencing cold winds that have resulted in temperatures dropping. Weekend’s forecast will see temperatures drop to 15’C inland, 17’C to 19’C on the coast and around -5’C in the higher regions.”

“Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 6’c inland on Friday night, 8’C on the coast and -2’C on Troodos”

Temperatures are expected to drop even more on Saturday with wind speeds expected to increase on the coast by night time.

“Wind speeds are expected to be three to four and perhaps reaching five on the Beaufort scale (between 20km/h and 38km/h). Wind speeds are expected to increase in the coastal regions by Saturday night and are expected to be around five to six on the Beaufort scale. (long waves begin to form. White foam crests are very frequent. Some airborne spray is present).”

Wind speeds on the coast on Saturday night could hit as high as 50km/h.
