Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) celebrates Republic Day 2016 with a variety of events
The 33rd anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is being celebrated with a variety of events.
The celebrations officially began at noon today Tuesday 15th November 2016 with an address to the nation by President Mustafa Akıncı on Bayrak Radio Television Corporation. At the same time a 21 gun salute was fired on the occasion. A ceremony is being held at the tomb of the late Turkish Cypriot leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük around now.
Today Tuesday 15th November 2016, ceremonies will be held in the capital Lefkoşa and other cities to mark the day. The first ceremony in Lefkoşa will be held in front of the Martyrs Monument at 8am. President Mustafa Akıncı will receive well wishers at the Presidential Palace as of 9am tomorrow morning. The second ceremony in Lefkoşa will be held in front of the Atatürk Monument at 9:30am. The celebrations will reach a climax with the main ceremony at the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard at 10am.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the mausoleum of Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş will also be held. The ceremony started at 12:30pm.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı and first lady Meral Akıncı will be hosting a reception at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Lefkoşa at 7pm.
Meanwhile, similar ceremonies will be held throughout the republic to mark the day.
