ReLEx SMILE LASER Technology Ending Eyeglass Use Within 22 Seconds Now At Hospital of Near East University


The ReLEx SMILE Laser Technology, which is a bladeless, painless, risk-free, comfortable method featuring a shorter recovery period, is now athe Hospital of Near East University. The ReLEx SMILE Laser Technology is an advanced level minimally-invasive treatment method that can even be used on patients suffering from eye dryness (xerophthalmia) and have very thin cornea, or suffer from visual disorders such as very low myopic and astigmatism.

The whole treatment process is carried out within a single stage lasting only 3-4 minutes. The technology is expressed to be minimally invasive and to be flapless surgery enabling lenticule and a small incision of 2 – 4 mm is created inside the intact cornea, enabling an 80 % smaller side-cut as compared to a LASIK flap. Furthermore, 30 % less cap cut is needed. As there is no need for a flap, the healing time of the patients is expressed to be faster than the conventional LASIK. Lefkoşa municipality TRNC introduces ‘white jasmine’ project


Lefkoşa municipality has launched a new scheme to recognise restaurants, cafés and similar establishments that meet high standard of service and hygiene, it has been announced.

The ‘white jasmine’ certificates, flags and stickers will be awarded to businesses that score at least 70 points out of a 100 according to their “quality criteria”.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Lefkoşa Mayor Mehmet Harmancı said the objective of the initiative, inspired by Turkey’s “White Lily Award”, was to “recognise and reward businesses that provided at high level of service”.

The scheme will operate on a voluntary basis with priority being given to establishments serving food. “Hygiene is not the only criteria, consideration will also be given to facilities for disabled people,” Mr Harmancı said.

Proprietors wanting to take part can apply online via www.beyazyasemin.com for a fee of 50TL, after which their application will be assessed by a special “evaluation commission”.

The certificates and flags will be valid for six months and to earn a renewal, establishments will have to reapply and be reassessed.

The 6th Lefke Walnut Festival to take place on 6-7 June


The 6th Lefke Walnut Festival which is organized by Lefke Tourism Association with the contributions by Lefke Municipality and European University of Lefke will take place on 6-7 June in Lefke.

The Festival aims to increase Lefke’s tourism potential and develop a community based tourism. According to the President of Lefke Tourism Association Hasan Karlıtaş’ announcement, during the festival which will last two days many activities promoting local culture will take place as well as artistic activities and activities for kids.

The festival goers will find the opportunity to purchase famous Lefke walnuts and walnut products while enjoying folklore dance, live music performances and guided town tours.

Near East University [NEU] Animal Hospital has initiated its Ambulance Service.


The first and the only animal hospital of the island, Near East University Animal Hospital has now started to provide another significant service to the island. According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Chief Physician of NEU Animal Hospital; Assist. Prof. Dr. Osman Ergene, has made a statement and expressed that the Animal Hospital had started to provide animal ambulance service.

It was pointed out that this was a significant service which was missing on the island and that it is now being provided by the first and the only animal hospital on the island, NEU Animal Hospital. Furthermore, it was added that the ambulance would not only be used for emergency services, and that it would also be utilized for getting the animals to the hospital for routine controls and treatments.

It will also be provide service for stray animals…

Chief Physician Assist. Prof. Dr. Osman Ergene further added that the ambulance would be used for the transport of wounded animals in the street and expressed his best wishes for starting such a service for the country.

Ergene added that the working hours of the Animal Hospital was;

Monday-Saturday from 9:30-18:00.
