NEU: The new building of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Hospital is ready for the academic year



The new building of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Hospital which foundation was laid on 18 February 2013 is coming into service within a short time.

According to Press release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the NEU, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital would be the first and only animal hospital in TRNC. Being a full service veterinary medical facility, the Animal Hospital with its fully equipped infrastructure, convenient design and specialized dedicated academic staff is getting ready to provide the best possible healthcare services for their highly-valued patients as well as to ensure clinical training opportunities for the students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.


Inspired from the projects of the most outstanding animal hospitals of veterinary faculties in the United States and Europe, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital of the Near East University was designed in accordance with international benchmarks and standards. Aiming to be at the forefront of advanced veterinary medicine and to keep its clinical practices on the cutting-edge of veterinary excellence, the Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital is equipped with high-tech sophisticated diagnostic tools, such as nuclear scintigraphy, state-of-the-art ultrasonography, endoscopy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and digital radiography to provide the best animal care and offer a broad range of advanced treatment options as well as to ensure a fully equipped hospital environment for students to continue their training and perform direct clinical applications.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital aims to provide inpatient and outpatient services for all animal owners on the island. Clinical training, which is an integral part of veterinary medicine education, is provided within the structure of animal hospitals nowadays. The Animal Hospital is committed to utilizing advanced training and technologies to provide care ranging from preventive health to specialty services. The students will have the opportunity to engage in diverse clinical applications including processes starting from patient admission until the patient discharged. Thus, they will receive their training by experiencing all emerging cases. In this context, The Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is preparing for its students all academic and physical qualifying conditions required to receive the clinical training in a perfect environment.

The newly constructed Animal Hospital with a spacious indoor area houses a reception & patient admittance office, a waiting hall, 4 general examination rooms, a special examination room, shaving and bathing room, treatment area, inpatient rooms, pharmacy, central diagnostic laboratory, digital X-ray room, ultrasound and endoscopy room, preoperative preparation room, sterilization room, 2 operation theaters-one for soft-tissue surgery and one for orthopedic surgery, and post- operative intensive care units. The Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital has the distinction of being the first to use digital X-ray among the veterinary faculties.


The Animal Hospital stands out with its high tech equipment including ophthalmic microscope to offer unsurpassed optical quality for today’s eye surgery procedures, color Doppler ultrasound, laser devices, endoscopy and digital radiography devices. The students will receive clinical training in such a perfect environment mentioned above. They will have opportunity to experience every phase of veterinary medicine practice by engaging in processes including patient admission, preliminary diagnosis, final diagnosis, medical or surgical treatment, prophylactic veterinary medicine, post-operative intensive care and patient discharge.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is dedicated to continue its commitment to produce competent and compassionate professionals through providing excellent education to its students. In small groups, the students will receive practical clinical training on Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. At the same time the students will be provided with opportunity to practice laboratory diagnostic methods. The Animal Hospital aims to offer a broad range of treatment options and provide definite and permanent solutions for health problems of our beloved animals who are also a member of our homes.
