NEU!: Great Honor for the Near East University in the field of culture and science
The Near East University received the Ismail Bey Gaspıralı Special Jury Award in Bartın in recognition of its significant contributions to the Turkic world in the field of culture and science.
According to the press release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of NEU (Near East University Nicosia, Cyprus), UNESCO announced 2014 as the year of İsmail Bey Gaspıralı for his 100th Death Anniversary. Bartın Province Journalists Association and International Journalism Association For Turkish-Speaking Countries organized a ceremony for “İsmail Gaspıralı Bey Journalism and Human Rights Award”. The award ceremony was held in Bartın Province Culture Center on 1 November 2014. Within the frame of the event, the Near East University was granted with the Ismail Bey Gaspıralı Special Jury Award for its significant contributions to the Turkic World in the field of education, culture and science. NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel received the award on behalf of the Near East University.
The Ceremony was attended by Bartın University Rector Professor Ramazan Kaplan, Bartın Mayor Cemal Akın, Bartın Governor Seyfettin Azizoğlu and many statesmen, representatives from various countries who carry out studies concerning the Turkic World. Receiving the Jury Special Award on behalf of the Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel stated that the Near East University as a distinguished university of the Turkic World provides education in Turkish language for students coming from 90 different countries of the world. Günsel also voiced his happiness and proud of receiving such a significant award as an eminent symbol of NEU’s contributions to the Turkic World in the field of education, culture and science.
Touching upon the crucial impacts of multiculturalism in the globalization world, Günsel highlighted that the new generations should undertake great tasks to stake a claim to our own culture and language in this multicultural environment and carry our well-respected place in this cultural richness further. Drawing attention to NEU’s significant cultural and scientific contributions, Günsel noted that the Near East University within a multicultural environment was committed to contributing the richness of Turkish culture and introducing this culture to its international students within the scope of quality education. Günsel indicated that it was a great source of pride of receiving such an eminent award that honored with the name of Ismail Bey Gaspirali, who was one of the most important figures on culture and language studies. Highlighting the importance of the studies carried out by Gaspıralı aiming the modernization of Turkish education, the protection and improvement of Turkish culture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel said that in the globalizing world where different cultures were in interaction and rivalry, Gaspıralı’s studies were needed to be evaluated carefully once again.
Indicating that the sayings of Gaspıralı ” Unity in language, idea and action” reflects one of the aspects of studies carried out by the Near East University in Cyprus and across the globe as well, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel stated that the Near East Family with pride of its own culture embraced the cultures of the world.
Underlining the resoluteness and commitment of the Near East University, which is the pride of the Near East Family in higher education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel indicated that the Near East University attached great value on Turkish culture and would continue to provide scientific contributions to Turkish culture aiming to maintain its well-respected place in global culture. Günsel voiced NEU’s devotion to continue to be the leading scientific institution in this regard.
