More pictures from the 21st Spring Festival in EMU... with a Glorious Cortege Walk!
Eastern Mediterranean University’s 21st Spring Festival taking place under the main sponsorship of North Cyprus Turkcell between 21 and 24 May 2015 commenced with a magnificent cortege walk starting from Famagusta Youth Academy at 5:00 p.m. and ending at the festival area on the university campus.
Rector of EMU Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, all vice rectors, academic and administrative units, the student council, representatives of student clubs and a crowded group of students attended the cortege walk which took place within the framework of the 21st Spring Festival. In line with the theme of this year’s festival which is “Awake and Aware!”, students joined the walk with their hats, badges, colored bracelets, and costumes, all designed to raise public awareness towards social responsibility issues. The Tribal Dance Community from Turkey entertained the public with their colorful performance during the walk.
The cortege walk ended at the festival area on EMU Campus, where a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the start of the festival took place with the participation of Famagusta Mayor and President of the Board of Trustees İsmail Arter, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and vice rectors.
Following the opening ceremony, a project by the Greenpeace Movement entitled “Can Kid” was launched in the festival area. The project is based on the idea that the solid waste problem may be solved through selective collection and recycling processes. Following the launch of the project, students took their place at the club stands.
The first day of the festival hosted a theatre play entitled ““İstibdat Kumpanyası” by Levent Üzümcü and Sabri Özmener at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center. The Tribal Alternative Dance Community also entertained the audience with a fire dance and pixel poi show. Game of Shadows by Game of Gölge was as interesting as the Alternative Dance Community’s show.
During the first night of the 21st Spring Festival, famous rock group Duman was on the stage. Prior to the concert, Famagusta Mayor and President of the Board of Trustees İsmail Arter and Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan delivered speeches. At the end of the magnificent concert, members of group Duman were presented plaques of appreciation by Famagusta Mayor and EMU Board of Trustees’ President İsmail Arter, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu.
