TRNC Ministry of Interior and Labour imposes curfew on workers as Temperature reaches 43'C/109.4'F
The Interior and Labour Minister Aziz Gurpinar has announced that people would be prohibited from working outside during the dates of 5-8 August between 1200-1600 and anyone caught doing so would be stopped and their workplace fined to the cost of 1 minimum wage.
Responding to TAK news agency Gurpinar said that many organisations had indicated the dangers of working in the current heat and therefore the ministry considered these to be in place; he added that due to the warnings, they did not believe anyone would break the ‘curfew’. The Minister also announced that in order to help control this, a telephone line had been set up to report anyone breaking the curfew. The number to call is 102.

Temperatures expected to hit over 43; GC side issues orange warning
The heat is expected to rise to 43 degrees centigrade in the coming days according to the met office today.
The temperature will only drop a couple of degrees by the weekend. The met office said that during 4-10 August weather inland is expected to be 41-43 degrees and fall to around 40 at the weekend.
Whilst the heatwave has hit the island, the Greek Cypriot side has issued an orange warning, one up from their yellow warning of earlier. The GC side has warned that those working outside will be given leave during the month of August.
KIBRIS POSTASI speaking to DEV-IS union General Secretary Omer Nasit said that the GC side had been implementing this for years and commented that it was ‘unscrupulous’ to let workers be outside in temperatures such as these.
