Apple iCar could become a reality in 4 Years time as tech firm's motoring ambitions shift up a gear

Apple Inc. is accelerating efforts to build an electric car, designating it internally as a “committed project” and setting a target ship date for 2019, according to people familiar with the matter.

The scheme is called Project Titan and has already been revving up for more than a year, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Apple is understood to have been on a recruitment drive to help speed its car project along, hiring big hitters from automobile firms like Chrysler.

Apple has already built CarPlay, an in-car software platform that connects an iPhone to the car's entertainment and navigation system.

But it now appears the massive company is moving ahead with plans for an actual vehicle.

If Apple does release an iCar, an automatic, driverless version is likely to follow.
