In Remembrance - EBINABO TARIYEMIENYO MEINDINYO - (1 YEAR LATER).

1 YEAR LATER - I write this with great sadness over the unimaginable and shocking loss of a close friend to death. He is too young. He loved life. He is the best guy you would want around you. He can lay down his life for you, which he did under some strange circumstances.

EBINABO TARIYEMIENYO MEINDINYO inside and out, was a wonderful friend to me, supporting me for over 2 years with his gentle and caring nature. One of his beliefs in life was the importance of being authentic, original and carefree with people, saying what needs to be said because it’s good for the relationship and for the soul.

Also, I always admired how Ebi never judged or forced his opinions on anyone, but offered valuable and truthful advice that I will surely miss. He was loving and real. He was a wonderful and generous friend to all his friends.

Ebi’s life was taken away from us too soon and it is hard to understand why tragic things like this happen to such good people. However, this is a question without an answer and we should not dwell on the loss of our dear friend, son and brother. Today let’s celebrate his life and remember all of the remarkable things Ebi accomplished and how wonderful his life was.

Ebi was incredibly responsible, intelligent and caring. I knew that I could trust him with anything and I respected him more than words can say. I wonder what you were thinking as your life ended. Did you wonder if your life mattered? did you wonder if people would remember you? Oh God, this is so sad.

It is incredibly sad that Ebi’s life ended so soon and I cannot put into words how much I will miss him. Ebi was a positive person and would not want us to be sad today. If he were here he would tell us to cheer up, smile and remember all of the great memories we all shared. Even though Ebi may be gone, his memory will live on in all of us forever.

COMRADE EBINABO TARIYEMIENYO MEINDINYO, I appreciate your friendship and will never forget you.

Your brother and friend,
K.D - Nigeria

EMU Communication and Media Studies Faculty Commemorates Wilbert Skip Norman

Eastern Mediterranean University Communication and Media Studies Faculty organised a commemoration ceremony for the former faculty member, photography artist and film director Wilbert Skip Norman who perished on 18 March 2015. During the ceremony, Norman’s colleagues and former students shared their memories about him.

In line with Norman’s will, photography artist and EMU Communication and Media Studies Faculty academic staff member İsmail Gökçe brought Norman’s ashes from the USA to Northern Cyprus. In his address, Gökçe stated that Norman had an extreme love towards Cyprus and always wanted his ashes to be poured into the sea in Cyprus. He stated that traveled to the USA for this purpose but he believes  Norman arrived in Cyprus before him as on 8 April, an extremely rare black flamingo was spotted in Cyprus. He believes it was him. Gökçe  added that Norman passed away with a big smile on his face.

One of the former students of Skip Norman, Emre Oskay stated that he was a perfect person. Oskay added that everyone will miss him. His former colleague Serra İnci Çelebi added that he was a very honest friend with a big heart.

Adding that Skip Norman was like a brother to him, EMU Communication Faculty academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul İlter shared one of his memories about Norman with the audience.  Reminding everyone that people used to smoke indoors in the faculty years ago, İlter stated that Norman came to the faculty with a gas mask to protest this situation. İlter concluded his speech by saying that he lost his brother.

Former dean of EMU Communication and Media Studies Faculty Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan added that he clearly remembers the day when Norman entered into his room with a gas mask. İrvan also stated that he used to hide his cigarettes when Norman came into his room.

Following the commemoration ceremony, named after Wilbert Skip Norman, the opening of EMU Communication and Media Studies Faculty’s Photography Studio took place.

In Memoriam: RIP Abrak Bane [A Tribute Message]

Abrak was an easy going energetic young man who filled the lives of those who knew him with an unforgettable ray of sunshine and cheerfulness. He was someone who simply loved life, and loved those that were blessed enough to be a part of it. Abrak could make people laugh and make people smile.

His unmistakable infectious personality would literally light up the room whenever he walked in. Yet, Abrak would always be there for people; to listen to their problems and was more than willing to do everything he could to help them out.

Abrak touched the lives of all who knew him in such a special and unique way.

Here's wishing Abrak the Peace and Love of God, which passeth all understanding, to guide and lead to the bossom of God.  Amen.
