CIU Students visit Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant in TRNC


Students from the Cyprus International University Faculty of Pharmacy and the Club for Medical Sciences went on a technical field trip at the Pharma Mondial pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. The visit that took place as part of the “Technology” course offered by the Department of Pharmacy and enabled the junior and senior students to observe up close a manufacturing plant functioning in conformity with European standards.

The visit was led by Prof. Dr. Murat Şumru, Associate Prof. Dr. Kemal Buharalıoğlu, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Ender Volkan Çinar, Lecturer Övgü İşbilen, and Research Assistant Ashfaq Rehman. The Director of Pharma Mondial Dr. Feridun Adahan provided the visitors with information on the establishment and functioning of the factory, as well as the machinery, and  the processes used to manufacture and package drugs.  The students had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with employees working at the plant.

Speaking of the visit, Dr. Çinar said “During the visit our students were given the opportunity  to direct questions of interest concerning the sector to both Mr. Feridun and the personnel employed at the plant. With this occasion the students were also able to observe a factory where the manufacturing process is in compliance with European standards, and in and of itself this alone was a significant experience for our students.”

Lecturer Övgü İşbilen added “It was a great experience for our students. The visit also provided our students with the chance to undertake an internship at the factory.”

 Junior student  Kayra Coşar said: “This was a very productive and useful trip. We were able to observe up close the process of pharmaceutical manufacturing. We observed that during the manufacturing process each drug goes through a different room, we observed the laboratorial  arrangement, and the siginificance of air and water during the manufacturing process. We also got a chance to see the highly technical manufacturing equipment.”
