A group of scientists placed 5 monkeys in a cage and in the middle, a ladder with bananas on top. Every time a monkey went up the ladder, the scientists soaked the rest of the monkeys with cold water. After a while, every time a monkey went up the ladder, the other ones beat up the one on the ladder.

    the author I think is trying to make some sort of point to NOT keep doing things the way we always have just becasue that is the way it has always been done...BUT...this story shows that sometimes doing things the way they have always been is the correct thing to do. Even though none of the monkeys knew WHY it is bad to climb the ladder, as soon as one did, the other monkeys WILL get sprayed with water!
    Just because no one know exactly why we do something a certain way does NOT necessarily mean it is the wrong way to do it or behave!
