Comprehensive cooperation protocol was signed between the Near East University and Istanbul University


The Near East University and Istanbul University signed a mutual cooperation protocol envisaging “Common Diploma Programs” in the field of “Open and Distance Learning” within the framework of the regulations.

According the press release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, Istanbul University Rector Prof. Dr. Yunus Söylet along with his delegation, the Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, NEU Rector Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, vice rectors and faculty members participated in the signing ceremony.

In his opening remarks, NEU Rector Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan touched upon the importance of such a protocol and spoke of: “Undoubtedly, it is an important day for us in all aspects. As a precious medical scientist and lecturer who reminds Turkey and TRNC the principles to be followed in an ethical context, Istanbul University Rector Prof. Dr. Yunus Söylet is among us to live the pride of establishing a full cooperation with NEU. We are living the outcome of the intellectual work discipline and moral unity between our Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel and Prof. Dr. Yunus Söylet. This cooperation was established within mind and heart synthesis in an objective manner. Its volume and nuances will technically and scientifically show itself within the frame covering the topics that each university is specialized in” said he.

Taking the stage Istanbul University Rector Prof. Dr. Yunus Söylet said: “”Today we are experiencing an exciting phase of a continuation of a previously existing togetherness actually. As Istanbul University, we have established this cooperation with TRNC’s most long-established university; the Near University that we are also proud of it. We have come together to determine the road map for our steps from now on in a more systematic and rule-bound manner.

The protocol is aimed at actions towards more open learning environments to deliver education of higher quality and efficacy and thus contributing to the future goals of boosting competitiveness and growth by investing in our young people. “Common Diploma Programs” in the field of Open and Distance Learning is the first and the most important step of the frame protocol that we are signing today. We will give momentum for our efforts for offering programs particularly in English within Open and Distance Learning scope for international students. We will also accelerate our efforts to open new exchange programs for researchers and academic staff. All these will be carried out in a more systematic manner within the context of the curriculum and information exchange”.
