Facebook Profile Video update will allow You to upload short films instead of pictures.

Facebook users will soon be able to show themselves off in a very exciting way. Facebook is preparing to allow users to place a video on their profile as well as the traditional picture.

The new functionality is set to be introduced as part of a raft of new tools designed to allow people to personalise their profile in new and (hopefully) exciting ways.

"The world has changed since we first introduced profiles in 2004," wrote Aigerim Shorman and Tony Hsieh, product managers at the social network.

"On News Feed and profiles, we’re seeing people create and view more videos than ever before.

"Today we’re starting to test the next step in an obvious evolution of profiles: profile videos.

"Soon, you’ll be able to film a short, looping video clip that will play for anyone who visits your profile.

"Profile videos will let show a part of yourself you couldn’t before, and add a new dimension to your profile."

The social network is planning a number of other changes which should allow profiles to become even more personal.

Leading on from the success of the Celebrate Pride filter, which overlaid profile pics with the famous rainbow flag, Facebook will allow images to be overlaid on a certain date.

This means football fans could emblazon their photo with their team's colours on match day, or Labour supporters could swap their head with Jeremy Corbyn's during conference speeches and the like.

"Profile pictures are not just static portraits," Facebook continued.

"They represent what’s going in your life right now and what’s important to you, and we want to give people the tools to better express themselves in this way."

Anyone viewing profiles on a mobile device will soon see their friends' photos appear at the centre of the screen and Facebook has "made them bigger to give you more real estate to show off what you can do with our new creative tools".

The new tools are being offered to selected users in the UK and America ahead of a wider roll out later this year.

UPDATE1: This Facebook feature is NOT YET AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE. It is being rolled out selectively so just relax, your turn will come.
