NEWS: 88 Prisoners on hunger strike in Nicosia prison.
A hunger strike was launched in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus - Nicosia Central Prison in protest of the allegedly shabby living conditions.
The prison currently houses 378 inmates and reportedly 88 prisoners have gone on hunger strike, ‘Havadis’ reports.
The newspaper publish a report on the unsanitary and cramped living conditions, created by incarcerating people in a building which is too small for the number of inmates.
Head of the prison guards’ union, Salih Kayali, has confirmed that there were 88 prisoners on hunger strike, which began on April 5.
