Anti-nuclear power demonstration was held in Nicosia TRNC

The ‘No to Nuclear Power’ Platform yesterday staged a demonstration in Nicosia on Saturday. 200 demonstrators gathered to protest against the nuclear plant being built in Akkuyu, Mersin.

A petition containing in the region of 4,000 signatures was handed in at the Turkish Embassy.

Protesters are concerned about the potential for environmental contamination by the power station, how nuclear waste will be managed and the possibility of damage to the plant in the event of an earthquake.
