EMU Genetics Club Organised a Conference on “Bats”


Operating under the supervision and advisorship of Eastern Mediterranean University, Arts and Sciences Faculty, Biological Sciences Department, Molecular Biology and Genetics Program academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Tüzmen, EMU Genetics Club organised a seminar with the participation of the guest speaker Kırıkkale  University, Arts and Sciences Faculty, Biology Department academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nursel Aşan Baydemir,  who is an expert on mammalian cytogenetics, systematics and taxonomy.

As the first and only female researcher and scientist in Turkey in the field of bat preservation, taxonomy and systematics, Assoc. Dr. Nursel Aşan Baydemir talked about the benefits of these flying mammals for the ecosystem and humans.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Baydemir  also put forth that types of bats in Turkey and the TRNC do not carry EBOLA virus.

With a noteworthy experience of 25 years on Molecular Biology and Genetics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Tüzmen and with over 20 years experience on bat systematics and taxonomyAssoc. Prof. Dr. Nursel Aşan Baydemir are finalising the groundwork for prospective collaborative projects, which will be forming platforms for undergraduate and postgraduate students for science and research.
