UPDATE!: Increase chances of snow in TRNC as snowy weather batters middle east.
The weather conditions that hit Cyprus the last few days with strong winds, heavy rain, cold and storms are starting to gradually clear.
The Meteorological Department forecasts severe cold over the next few days, but the worst appears to be over and the temperature will rise by up to 5 degrees Celsius during the weekend.
The Met. Dept. said the next few days what will be of most concern is the ice frost condition that is expected to hit almost all of Cyprus except the coastal areas.
Police are advising drivers, especially those planning to head into the mountain areas to take extreme care and drive in low gears, as the combination of high winds and snow is hampering visibility.
Emergency services remain on alert as gusting winds, snowfall and low temperatures are set to continue to be felt across much of the country.
Last night five aircraft heading to Beirut were forced to land at Larnaca airport due to the stormy conditions.
On Tuesday heavy storms caused several power-cuts in the east of the island, which received a battering during two-days of heavy winds and rain.

A cold weather front from Russia is expected to arrive in Cyprus as of this evening, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.
The cold front which has already reached Turkey is expected to hit the island today and sleet and snow is expected on high ground, the Met office says.
Frost will continue throughout the week and temperatures are expected to be around 6-9 C during the day and below zero degrees C at night.
The public have been advised to take precautions.
